KI Takes Home Top Honors at the 2026 Nightingale Awards

KI left New Orleans with two of healthcare design’s most coveted honors. At the 2026 Nightingale Awards, presented at the Healthcare Design Conference + Expo (Oct. 17-20), KI earned the Best of Innovation Award for its Cognetic Technology™ and a Gold Award for Clinician Support for the Kiaura Collection™.
The Nightingale Awards, named for Florence Nightingale, recognize products that promote healing and productivity in healthcare environments. This year, 21 jurors from healthcare architects to interior designers to facility executives evaluated 70 entries and honored 26 products across 17 categories. Judging weighs clinical and operational outcomes, durability, functionality, sustainability, and innovation, so these wins carry real weight with the people who design and run care spaces.

Best of Innovation: Cognetic Technology™

Cognetic Technology™ took the Best of Innovation Award, recognized in the Technology-Integrated Solutions category. It is a patented, gravity-responsive seating innovation invented by designer Aaron DeJule that works continuously with the body’s natural micro-movements.

Instead of locking people into a fixed “correct” posture or asking them to keep fiddling with levers and knobs, Cognetic Technology™ lets the chair move with the sitter. The result is ongoing balance, responsive motion, and engagement while seated. As KI’s Tony Besasie put it, the idea is that “seating should adapt naturally to people instead of asking people to adapt to seating.”

Gold for Clinician Support: the Kiaura Collection™

The Kiaura Collection™, the first seating line built with Cognetic Technology™, earned Gold in the Furniture: Clinician Support category. Kiaura spans conference seating, guest and lounge seating, and clinician support furniture, all designed to support movement, balance, restoration, and human performance.

That matters for the people who keep hospitals and clinics running. Clinicians shift constantly between charting, consults, and short breaks. A chair that responds to subtle body movement, rather than holding them still, supports them through long shifts and back-to-back tasks.

Already a Best of NeoCon standout

The Nightingale wins build on a strong debut. Earlier this year, Kiaura and Cognetic Technology™ earned seven Best of NeoCon 2026 awards, including Best of Competition. Honors spanned Integrated Technology, Ergonomic Task Seating, Conference Seating, Sofas + Lounge, and Lounge Furniture Collections.

What sets Kiaura apart is its gravity-driven, multi-axis motion. The seat responds naturally to subtle body movement, supporting posture variability and intuitive movement. That works across the full range of moments a space hosts:

  • Focus: staying engaged and comfortable during heads-down work

  • Collaboration: shifting easily as conversations move around the table

  • Waiting: easing restlessness for patients and families in lounges and waiting rooms

  • Respite: helping staff truly recharge during a break

What this means for your healthcare spaces

Healthcare environments ask a lot of their furniture. The same space may host a family waiting for news, a care team huddle, and a clinician catching a quick break, all in one day. Kiaura’s award-winning design meets those shifting needs by moving with people instead of against them.
