Founded in 1944, this prestigious law firm, specializing in litigation law, is headquartered in Seattle, Washington, and has offices in ten other cities across the United States, including San Francisco, CA.
As part of their renewed workplace strategy that reflected the ever-changing needs of their business, this firm sought the help of bluespace interiors with many requirements at hand. Aside from needing to relocate to a facility on a tight schedule to prevent the firm from incurring over-market rental fees, the new office also specified an increased emphasis on hoteling, lounge areas, break areas and reception spaces. This new environment would better support their hybrid work culture. Needing to house full-time and hybrid employees, the previous working environment did not support dynamic working styles and was limited to flexible options that required a division of spaces for multiple needs. Another requirement was to evaluate the firm’s existing furniture to see what could be reused without impacting the new look for their office.
bluespace interiors was called upon to help meet these custom requirements through solution-centric design. In collaboration with a custom wood manufacturer, Coriander, the team crafted a bespoke wood panel system to precisely fit custom dimensions, complete with ample storage, new workspaces and counters to interface easily with clients. Wood tops were fitted for height-adjustable desks, wardrobe storage and bookcases. All were tailored to complement the company’s brand for clients to see in the reception area and other open spaces, reflecting this firm’s image. Areas for secretarial workstations were previously tight; new custom storage units were configured to accommodate more room for filing needs and personal items. Ancillary solutions were provided by Coriander, VIA Seating, NuCraft, SpaceStor and Emeco, in the areas of banquettes, multi-media stations and soft seating. ESI provided ergonomic solutions such as sit-to-stand bases and monitor arms, while accessory items were furnished by Collaborative Spaces.
Overseeing the entire process, bluespace interiors served as an agile project manager to ensure all went according to plan, in the areas of space planning, furniture specification, cost estimation and all installation logistics. Several obstacles were foreseen and overcome: the COVID-19 pandemic caused continuous changes in lead times for product. From a space design perspective, the project designer provided general descriptions of the desired ancillary furniture and left it to the seasoned team at bluespace to source and specify appealing, commercial grade, high design products that would fit the needs and the budget of the client.
The bluespace team met the firm’s design criteria at lower costs than designer selected lines, while seamlessly managing installation and move companies to ensure that the job was completed to professional standards per the required timeline. As a result, the client was overjoyed that all requirements were addressed, bringing the project under budget and on time.
